350mc: Working with Photography in Context ‘Contemporary Ukrainian Art Show’ London

leave a comment »

As part of my ongoing research in my Ukraine project I managed to visit the Contemporary Ukrainian Art Show in London at the weekend.  Described as “Marking 20 years of independence from the former Soviet Union, this exhibition firmly establishes Ukraine as an artistic force in its own right. 50 pieces by 41 artists embrace themes of fantasy, beauty and an edgy modernity that nods to The West both ironically and hopefully. Although the majority of pieces are paintings, photographic and mixed-media works are also represented. Since the emphasis is on emerging artists and all works have been completed in the last 5 years, all pieces are affordable and increasingly collectible”.

I knew the exhibition would be worth looking at and I was not disappointed.  Paintings and photography side by side.  Some great pieces which show the wide range of creativity by the artists involved.  It has encouraged me to not just see my work as ‘images’.  They could include sound, paint, fabric material etc… The only limit is my imagination…
