351mc Phonar: Transmedia Storytelling: ‘Bottoming Out’ Gambling Addiction in Las Vegas

When Mike Lusmore of duckrabbit came to talk last week he also showed us a clip titled ‘Bottoming Out’ which is a personal story about a man battling gambling addiction in Las Vegas.

Tony McDew recognised that he had a real problem with gambling addiction and decided to document it using his own video camera.  This to me is what makes this story special.  It is not about the poor quality or lack of professional equipment because the narrative is what made this work.  It has that all important ‘honesty’ contained within it that Jon Levy spoke about two weeks earlier.

This way of dealing with a personal problem and yet helping others at the same time gave the footage a certain power.  Something which the viewer can relate to.
