352mc Professional Photographic Practice: Research – Photographer Alexander Gronsky

It was after e-mailing photographer George Georgiou that I discovered the fantastic work of Alexander Gronsky and his project ‘Town of Brides’.  George looked at my own project in Ukraine and recommended that I take a close look at the work of his friend Alexander.

The project looks at the town of Novgorod in Russia which has 1298 women for every 1000 men.  For this project, women seeking marriage  were asked to produce a portrait of the man of their dreams with the help of Police software.  Alexander then went on to produce a set of diptych portraits of the women on their own and then holding an image of their ideal man which they had designed.

This has made me look at my own project in a different light and that maybe in the future I need to think more about which direction I take the project in.  There are so many issues surrounding the subject and all of these can play in part in telling their story.
