352mc Professional Photographic Practice: The calm before the storm

I took this images in one of the more popular bars in Kiev.  It is an ex pat bar often frequented by those looking for a future wife or partner.  It is also a bar frequented by ‘working girls’.  Yes, a real mixture of people.  It’s not quite like the ‘bar scene’ from Star Wars, but I’m sure you get the picture.  There is plenty going on that’s for sure.

The male in the image is one of my main subjects Pete who is part of my bigger project.  Here he meets up with an ex partner who is none too pleased that he is calling their relationship off.  Yes, the body language says it all.  He tries to let her down gently but ending relationships is not Pete’s strong point and things start to go down hill rapidly.  I take cover position at the end of the bar, but within earshot and shoot away capturing a fair few images.

Not long after this mage was taken, she was barred from the pub.  She stood up on top of the bar stool pointing her finger down onto Pete’s head shouting ‘He is the biggest loser in this pub’.  I mentioned to Pete afterwards that in all honesty that was some achievement being called that, especially looking at the stiff competition which he was up against in the bar.  We finished our drinks and left before she returned to the pub for ’round 2′.
