354MC Professional Practice Portfolio: Vinyl lettering for exhibition title and context

leave a comment »

As the degree show draws ever near, there are still the final touches that I am working on. The context and ‘Destination Unknown’ lettering which will compliment the ten images is being sourced from a local vinyl graphics company.

The context to go with my images was planned to be sized A4 and printed using vinyl which was then going to be rubbed onto the gallery wall next to the images.  However, when I visited the vinyl shop the font was too small for them to produce.  Removing the centres from letters such as ‘e’ with a sharp blade would have proved too difficult.

The owner at the shop luckily has had experience with galleries and suggested that I consider having the lettering printed onto a piece of white A3 perspex which he could supply with silver fittings.  Once these fittings are in place the perspex with stand proud from the wall by about 1″ giving a much more professional feel.  I decided to opt for this and only had to wait 48 hours before collecting both the vinyl and the perspex display sign.
