352mc Professional Photographic Practice: The Ukrainian Youth Association’s annual regional Rally for the Midlands and the South

with 4 comments

On Saturday I attended The Ukrainian Youth Association’s annual regional Rally for the Midlands and the South at the AUGB in Leicester.  Having focussed most of my work in Ukraine I thought this would be a great opportunity to meet Ukrainians who live in the UK and are still preserving their own heritage, culture and identity.  I travelled with a fellow student Myroslava Terlecky from Coventry University who has been a member of the UYA for many years.

After a short Church service it was through to the main hall where different branches of the UYA competed with a range of poetry, dance and song.  Although competitive, it was all good humoured and the standard of the performers was second to none.

This was followed by some quality socialising which included traditional Ukrainian food and naturally a pint or three.  Overall, it was a fantastic day and something which I look forward to attending again in the summer.
