64th National Rally of Ukrainian Youth Movement, Tarasivka

with 2 comments

Saturday morning saw me taking a quick trip up to Weston upon Trent to Tarasivka (Ukrainian Youth Centre).  This was for the 64th National Rally of the Ukrainian Youth Movement (CYM)

Their objective – To organize, nurture, and educate youth in the spirit invoked by the ideals “God and Ukraine”; in forming their Christian and patriotic values as well as morally sound individuality, to cultivate the unity of Ukrainians around the world, in readiness to work for the good of the Ukrainian Nation and to strengthen its statehood.

Their motto – “God and Ukraine”  Based on this highest of ideals, CYM’s programs promote the principles of Christian ethics and pride in the Ukrainian national heritage. Emphasis is placed on one’s role as a citizen of one’s country and one’s role as a member of the Ukrainian community.

At 12pm there was the official opening ceremony followed by a parade and then the competition which consisted of a variety of poetry, singing and dancing.  This was a great way to spend an afternoon in the company of  many people whom I had met over the past few months.

Next stop:  London on Wednesday for a demonstration outside the Ukrainian Embassy in Holland Park for a protest against the ‘Language Bill’.  Blog post with images to follow
